Instant Missions (Field App Mode)

Optimise your workflow for rapid deployment or minimal-touch low risk operations.

What is Instant Mission mode?

FlyFreely's new 'Instant Mission' mode is designed to allow for rapid deployment of RPAS  operations with minimal time spent in the field app. In this mode, there is no mission planning screen, and record keeping is dependent on flight log capture as there is no inbuilt flight timer to operate in the app. Pilots simply start their mission, complete any required forms (this is cusomisable) and fly their mission. Additional detail can be added during the reconciliation stage post-mission, as required.

Enable Instant Missions

Instant missions is available to all customers with a paid subscription (Business, Teams, Enterprise). In order to see and use this feature, the following need to be set up:

  • The organisation needs to have a default 'Instant Mission Workflow'. This can be any workflow which does not require an approval to use.

Workflow requirements:

  • Only pre-mission and post-mission forms are allowed in the workflow. If your workflow contains forms or attachments in any other missions stage/s, it will not appear in the list of available instant mission workflows.
  • Only workflows which do not require an approval can be selected as instant missions.

  • Ensure that any relevant pilot/s have the correct user roles.
By default, any user possessing the Remote Pilot and Pilot Submitter  roles will have access to instant missions. These users will have the option to select between regular and instant missions when they add a mission in the field app:

  • You can also set certain pilots to only have access to instant missions (no regular missions). To do this, add the user and give them the Instant Mission Only Pilot role. The pilot won't have the option to select 'standard mission' as shown above but will be taken directly into the instant mission flow instead.

Executing an Instant Mission

Once the above setup is complete, remote pilots will have the option to create either a Standard or Instant mission in the app. Standard missions allow the planner to select from available workflows, while Instant mission will always use the workflow nominated in the above configuration steps.

Instant missions always include an  airspace check, which is automatically run on your location. You can view the results in more detail by tapping the > button next to the number of results, as shown below.

When you're ready to proceed, tap Start Mission. If your workflow includes any pre-mission checklists, they will appear for completion now. Once any checklists are complete, tap Start Flying to start the flight timer.

The inbuilt flight timer represents the overall duration. If you need to perform multiple flights, you should complete these before tapping 'Finish Flying'. Individual flight times will be populated based on the captured flight logs generated within the mission time.

Once you've completed all flying for this mission, tap Finish Flying. You'll have the opportunity to amend the mission time before uploading it by tapping on the pencil icon.

If you're happy with the record, tap Complete Mission.

Instant Mission rely on the capture of flight logs to populate the flight times, battery sets and other flight parameters. Don't forget to sync your flight logs (if using a cloud sync method) after completing your mission!
