Oversight (Subscription Add-On)

Track external contractors or non-planning internal remote pilots using FlyFreely's oversight subscription add-on

What is Oversight?

The oversight feature allows organisations to record and monitor the flying activities of a set of pilots, without the need for those pilots to pre-plan missions or interact with FlyFreely in the field.

The feature relies on the capture of RPAS flight logs to record flights, as missions are automatically generated based on these logs in a retrospective manner.

From the remote pilot's point of  view - all that is required is to ensure that their flight logs are uploaded at the end of their mission (via the flight control app). FlyFreely takes care of the rest.

The Oversight feature is enabled via a subscription add-on. It is not a subscription type itself and can only be added to one of our regular subscription types (Business, Teams or Enterprise). It is currently supported for DJI, Skydio and DroneDeploy flight control systems.

Common Uses

There are two main scenarios in which oversight is useful:

  1. Management of external contractors (where the contractor is not operating under the organisation's operator certificate).
  2. Internal teams who's operational scope does not require mission planning, only recording of their flight activities.

Set up Oversight

These steps are intended for the setup of internal teams. For setup of external contractors, please get in touch and we'll be happy to advise you.

  1. [Organisation Administrator] Invite any pilot/s to be included the oversight operations. Invites are generated from the personnel widget as outlined here. In the user roles section, tick the 'Pilot' role only. If you prefer to have pilots using a generic or shared profile, enter it's name instead.
  2. [Organisation Administrator] Configure automatic mission creation settings.
You can see full instructions on setting this up in our knowledge base article. Make sure you enter Automatic Mission Creation in the type (action) field.
  3. Once the mission creation has been configured, all incoming flight logs will be checked and actioned according to your selected settings.

Retrospective Missions

All missions generated via the Automatic Mission Creation  tool are categorised as 'Retrospective'. This indicates that the mission was generated after-the-fact (as opposed to normal pre-planned or in-field planned missions).

Retrospective missions can be edited in the office app much as regular completed missions can. If checklists or other external documents were completed in the course of the mission, you can attach them as part of the mission record.

The missions are displayed in the regular missions list (Missions tab).

  • To view only retrospective missions - select 'retrospective' from the mission type column filter.
  • To hide retrospective missions - select 'standard' from the filter.
