Pilot Currency

This feature allows for efficient monitoring and management of remote pilots by cross referencing flight log data to pre-defined conditions.

This article will cover the following:

The purpose of Pilot Currency

The purpose of pilot currency is to enable organizational administrators / Chief pilots to effectively oversee and manage the currency status of remote pilots, by comparing their loged flight activities against on a predefined policy.

All flights logged in FlyFreely will count towards a pilot's flight time, and therefore affect their currency status.

Configuration

This feature enables the monitoring of four specific conditions:

  • RPA Category (Multirotor, Powered lift etc)
  • Line Of Sight (VLOS, EVLOS, BVLOS)
  • RPA MTOW (<2kg, <25kg etc)
  • Time Of Day (Day, Night)

The conditions are established based on three specific criteria:

  • Days - the rolling timeframe in which the conditions must be satisfied
  • Number of Flights - number of flights that must completed to satisfy the conditions within that timeframe
  • Flight Time - minimum flight time required to satisfy the established conditions within that timeframe

Example:

Currency conditions: VLOS, Day, <7kg

Eligible Flight Conditions: VLOS, Day, <7kg

Currency requirements set:

  • Days = 90 days
  • Number of Flights = 3 flights
  • Flight Time = 5 minutes

For a remote pilot to be deemed 'current', they need to have flown 3 flights, each flight 5 minutes in length and in the space of 90 days from the current date checked for the condition configured.

When a flight log is assigned to a remote pilot, this information is logged against the user.

Configuring Currency

Currency is configured via the remote pilot register of an authority. This allows org admins to configure the requirements at the authority level.

  1. Select the relevant authority under the 'Authority' tab in the Org Admin panel and click 'View Authority'
  2. Click on 'Remote Pilot Register'
  3. Click on the 3 dots in the right hand corner , this will bring up a side window
  4. Click on 'Configure Currency'
  5. Configure the conditions and requirements
    1. Currency Conditions - select the conditions you are wanting to maintain currency on
    2. Eligible Flight Conditions - select the conditions that satisfy this
    3. Currency Requirements - define the specific activities required to satisfy these conditions
  6. Click 'Add' and exit the window, this will take you back to the side window you saw at step 3
  7. Click 'Apply'
  8. A column called 'Recency Conditions' will appear as an additional check and each remote pilot in this register will be evaluated based on the established conditions

Note:

You have the flexibility to choose any combination of conditions and requirements. It is not necessary to select all four conditions and all three requirements.

You can configure multiple currency conditions, repeat steps 3 - 7 above.

How currency is flagged for attention

If a remote pilot does not meet the defined conditions, this will be flagged on the remote pilot register under the 'Recency Conditions' column and also during mission planning.

  • If the pilot does not meet all currency conditions, a red cross will appear next to their name and their status will be updated to 'Pending'
  • If the pilot meets all currency conditions set, there will be a green tick next to their name
  • If the remote pilot doesn't meet one of the conditions (if multiple currency conditions are configured), an orange checklist icon will appear next to their name and their status will be updated to 'Pending'

You can check what currency condition isn't met by clicking on the icon

During mission planning, their status will also be highlighted when their name is selected on the mission.
