Capturing Flight Logs in FlyFreely

Maintain the most accurate records by capturing your RPAS flight logs and recording them in FlyFreely

The FlyFreely Field App offers automatic flight logging for your missions. This guide will provide an overview of the functionality, discuss the pros and cons of various logging methods, and link to detailed instructions for each option.

Key Benefits:

  • Accurate Record Keeping: Once the log file is uploaded, you'll have a complete and correct record of your operation, from planning to completion. Log files can be downloaded at any time in both original form and CSV format.
  • Battery Tracking: Flight logs automatically include the correct battery information, saving time during mission reconciliation.
  • Precise Flight Timing: Logs ensure accurate flight time records, eliminating the need to manually track flight start and end times.
  • GPS Track: Collection of this data allows for pilot conformance monitoring using FlyFreely's built-in tools (Teams & Enterprise customers). Flight tracks are also visually overlaid on your mission area.

This feature streamlines mission management and improves accuracy for operational records.

Not Supported: FlyFreely does not support flight log capturing for any Agras drones. This is because the file type is different and our system is unable to interpret them.

Flight Log Capture Methods

The best method of capturing logs depends on your equipment. Select the option that best describes your setup:

Checkout the Field App Release Notes for the recent changes.

Using DJI equipment with a smart controller

For customers using compatible devices, running the FlyFreely field app on the Remote Controller is the most efficient way to capture logs. In this configuration, FlyFreely will automate the entire process of collecting and recording flight logs against your missions.

Compatible RC models include the RC Pro and RC Plus models.

Note that the consumer level DJI RC model does not support 3rd party apps.

Using DJI equipment without a smart controller

If you don't have a compatible smart controller, you can still automate much of the flight log process by allowing FlyFreely to sync with your DJI cloud sync account.

Setting up cloud sync involves entering your cloud account details into FlyFreely. Your logs will then be syncronised every day (any new logs uploaded to DJI will be synced to your Flyfreely account).  From here, you can assign the logs to your mission - made easy via the mission suggestion tool.

Using other equipment or 3rd party flight control apps

For customers using non-DJI systems and flight control apps, other options for flight log capture exist depending on your setup. Supported systems include:

  • Quantum Trinity series
  • Some XAG models
  • Missions conducted using DroneDeploy
  • Skydio platform
  • Litchi App
  • Drone Harmony App
